Misao and Dave - August 31 2008

Misao is one of my oldest dearest friends from childhood. We met in the first weeks of 3rd grade. When she asked me to shoot her wedding, I was really touched.

Misao and Dave met through a mutual friend in 2001 at house music event that was being held in a church. They both had a keen sense of the absurd in life, and a mutual love of old school rap. Dave proposed to Misao on Harbor Island in the Bahamas, and they both cried.

Misao and Dave live in Boston. Misao's mom and stepfather live in the south of France. Dave's parents live in San Francisco. California won! They chose the Vinehill House in Sonoma, after seeing a tape of it that Dave's parents made. Misao wanted a backyard wedding, and Vinehill House made her feel like she was having one.

The day was perfection. Misao and Dave's family and friends are some of the warmest, loveliest people. The day was Filled with so many sweet moments. There were so many thoughtful details, reflecting their love of travel, and families spread far and wide across the world. I love these two, and I'm so happy they found each other.

Misao's mother lives in France, and made such a beautiful mother of the bride.

Misao's Father's side of the family is Japanese, and she had many little details and traditions that reflected her heritage. This ceremonial tea service was supposed to be 5 times as big. When they opened the box the morning of the wedding, they realized they had ordered a toy replica. It was still beautiful, and they used it during the ceremony anyway. Something to laugh about later.

This is my little boy Jack. He had just turned one. I don't usually have my family with me while shooting a wedding. But Misao is a friend. I couldn't resist shooting him peeking out from under my dress while I shot the reception.
Dave's mother collected photos from Misao and Dave, of their friends and family dating back as far as they had pictures. This was such an incredibly beautiful piece of the weekend. To see all the people and places that were coming together with these two getting married. The Ketubah is resting in front of the photos before the ceremony.

Dave apparently picked these shoes himself.

Dave's mother made these beautiful tins, and place cards using stickers and vintage stamps. She made an announcement that if anyone at the wedding was a philatelist, and discovered a valuable stamp on a name card, she didn't want to know, what was done, was done! This was one of most clever displays I've seen at a wedding.

Misao's grandmother's obi was laid out on the name card table.

Misao's aunt and cousin collected adorable Japanese candies, and wrapped them up as guest favors.

VInehill House is a working vineyard, with a beautiful orchard. The grounds are so beautiful

These two are so silly.
